ABSOLUT INDIA – A Sound-based Exploration of Indian Culture

Picture 125

As part of the ABSOLUT INDIA project by SapientNitro, a sound-based sensory installation was created.

The essence of the installation was a number of interactive ABSOLUT bottles that contained quintessential sounds that took participants on an exploration of the Indian culture. The sounds were triggered by sensors that were activated when a person walked by and eavesdropped into the bottles. The soundscape came to life by using open-source micro controllers with custom electronics, ultra-sonic range sensors and monaural speakers.

ABSOLUT INDIA drew inspiration from the ‘unseen’ – “the Indian ideal of a spiritual quest that is not visual or outward looking, but seeks to create an experience within”. People were presented with different flavors of India by taking them through a journey of nostalgia and discovery.
